Black Carpenter Ant

The Black Carpenter ant (a species of Carpenter ant), is the most common Carpenter ant pest; in the United States. Although they do not eat or digest wood, Black Carpenter ants will tunnel through wood; causing minor to extensive structural damage.

Black Carpenter ant workers are most active at night, foraging up to 100 yards in search of food; and leaving a chemical (pheromone) trail for others to follow. As such, an exterminator should conduct an inspection or assessment after dark, when the worker ants have emerged.

  1. The Carpenter ant is probably the most common ant pest, encountered by many exterminators; in the United States. These pests can cause serious structural damage to a building, as they tunnel-away at an investment. If homeowners or property managers see signs of this intruder, they must act quickly; to prevent extensive damage.
