Pavement Ants

The Pavement ant is a shiny black, double-node ant, which often ranges in size; from 1/10 to 1/8 of an inch. Pavement ants typically move in a slow deliberate motion, and are not easily disturbed.

Pavement ants often build their nests underneath asphalt, or concrete slabs. As Pavement ants build their shallow nests, they push small mounds of the soil out through the cracks and expansion joint, often creating the need for pest control services; to effectively eliminate the problem. Furthermore, nests are sometimes discovered underneath debris or objects on the ground, and near the heat sources in homes and structures; during the colder Fall and Winter months.

The Pavement ant is attracted to lights, and as such may find their way indoors; after dark. Once inside, worker ants cause a pest control problem, when they forage for food; feeding upon grease, pet food and any sweet substances they discover. Outdoors, Pavement ants feed on fruits and the sweet honeydew, produced by common garden pests; like aphids and mealy bugs.

  1. Because this pest control problem often appears outdoors initially, a local exterminator will likely recommend a property and yard treatment, in partnership with a baiting strategy; to eliminate the pavement ant pest invaders.
